This may sound a good news of sort for consumers of Peninsula Electric Cooperative (Penelco) — power rate is now down to P11 per kilowatt hour from P16 per kilowatt hour in the past several months.

This was announced last week by Ms. Ellaine Soriano-de Guzman, the newly designated general manager of Penelco following the retirement of Loreto Marcelino after three decades of troubleshooting the power firm. De Guzman revealed that the decrease in power rate of local power utility could be attributed to low price of coal which fuels the power plant that supplies electricity to Penelco.

Marcelino, meanwhile, will serve as consultant to Penelco for the next five years being the most qualified to handle the post. The present status of Penelco is the fruit of Marcelino’s expertise in handling the electric cooperative since the days of then troubled Bataan Electric Cooperative (Batelco)
